Police arrested about 100 women who blocked an intersection outside the US Congress Thursday as part of a protest in favor of immigration reform, organizers said.
Police would not specify how many women were arrested, saying they were still being booked.
The protest, called by rights activists to press for immigration reform, was timed to coincide with the start of a new legislative session.
“Approximately 100 women were arrested this morning after blocking the intersection in front of the House of Representatives,” the pro-immigrant group FIRM said in a statement.
An AFP reporter watched police escort them to police vans and take them away.
