Two people died when a yacht capsized off the coast of New York’s Long Island late Wednesday, the US Coast Guard said.
The other 25 people on board were recovered in a rescue operation, Coast Guard Lieutenant Jordan Boghosian told AFP early Thursday. He declined to provide further details about the identity of the passengers.
He said the Coast Guard had received reports of bad weather but had not yet determined the cause of the accident, which took place on the Fourth of July, a national holiday.
The boat capsized near Long Island’s Oyster Bay about 35 miles (55 kilometers) east of New York City.
