Marseille midfielder Joey Barton said his thoughts were with the family of Paris Saint-Germain staff member Nick Broad after the Englishman died from injuries sustained in a car crash on Thursday.
“I want to say that I am sparing a thought for the family of Nick Broad,” Barton told reporters after his side’s dramatic 3-2 win over Montpellier at Stade Velodrome on Saturday.
Following the accident which occurred on the outskirts of the French capital, PSG asked the league to postpone their match at Bordeaux on Sunday, but their request was turned down on the grounds of it coming at too short notice, a decision questioned by Barton.
“I don’t understand why the PSG match (against Bordeaux) hasn’t been called off,” said the on-loan midfielder.
Broad, 38, who served as PSG’s performance manager, had joined the club when Carlo Ancelotti, who he had previously worked under at Chelsea, was appointed manager in December 2011.
A minute’s silence will be held prior to Sunday’s match in Bordeaux, where a win would see Ancelotti’s side return to the summit of the table.
