The Monaco Grand Prix had to be stopped after 46 laps Sunday following a huge crash involving Williams driver Pastor Maldonado and Max Chilton of Marussia.
The Red Flag was shown after the Colombian and Briton came together at Turn 16, pushing the safety barrier out onto the track.
Jules Bianchi in the other Marussia was caught up in the aftermath and damaged his nose clipping an out of control Maldonado.
Stewards rushed to the cars to clear the debris strewn across the track as the other drivers came to a standstill back on the grid.
Mercedes driver Nico Rosberg had been leading at that time, followed by world champion Sebastian Vettel in a Red Bull and last year’s winner Mark Webber in third.
