The United States condemned Friday’s deadly car bombing in Beirut as an act of terrorism.
“There is no justification for such violence,” State Department spokeswoman Victoria Nuland said. “It was a car bomb. We have no reason to believe it was not terrorism. We condemn this act of terrorism.”
Nuland said the United States did not know who the perpetrators were but that all US embassy staff were accounted for and there were no immediate reports of Americans being injured.
The rush-hour bombing killed at least three people — including a senior official linked to the anti-Damascus camp in Lebanon — and wounded 96 more, Lebanese officials said.
