European court opposes extraditing schizophrenic to US

The European Court of Human Rights on Tuesday opposed the extradition to the United States of a man accused of terrorism and detained in a hospital in Britain under tight security.

The court said Haroon Aswat’s probable incarceration in a high security prison in the United States could “exacerbate his condition of paranoid schizophrenia.”
