FLORHAM PARK, N.J., June 14 (UPI) — One of the New York Jets’ best defensive playmakers knows the team’s offense won’t thrive without its signal-caller.

That’s why cornerback Darrelle Revis is asking the team to bring back free agent quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick.

“Ryan is a big part of our success,” Revis told NJ.com Tuesday. “He definitely is. He came here and he’s broken a bunch of records in the quarterback category. He was a big part of our offense. This [contract standoff] has been going on all offseason, and we’re waiting for him to come back.”

Fitzpatrick threw 31 touchdowns and 15 interceptions last season for the 10-6 Jets.

“I don’t make those decisions,” Revis added. “I definitely don’t. Those are not in my hands. We want him back, and we want to see him walk in this locker room.”

The Jets offered Fitzpatrick a three-year deal for $24 million, but the deal paid the quarterback $12 million in its first year, and averaged $6 million over its final two seasons.

Since then, Fitzpatrick has said he is willing to sign a one-year deal. The team previously said it wanted a deal with the 33-year-old before OTAs. Several other teammates, including wide receivers Brandon Marshall and Eric Decker have also voiced support for the veteran.
