BURBANK, Calif., June 4 (UPI) — Disney is teaming up with Cinderella producer Allison Shearmur to roll out a remake of the 1992 flick Sister Act.
The Hollywood Reporter said Wednesday that Kirsten Smith and Karen McCullah — writers of Legally Blonde, The House Bunny and She’s the Man — are on to re-write the flick, which originally starred Whoopi Goldberg, Maggie Smith and Harvey Keitel.
Details of the new story are remaining concealed for now, but the original plot centered around an unlucky lounge singer who witnesses a mob crime and is placed under police protection at a convent, where she masquerades as a nun.
There is no information yet about whether or not Whoopi Goldberg, 59, will return to the convent in any capacity for the Disney remake. Goldberg has been a boisterous moderator on The View since 2007. She has recently supported the push to include actress Raven Symone on the show’s panel indefinitely saying, “We are trying to make it permanent, so write in to everybody.”
