Michelle Dockery ‘open’ to ‘Downton Abbey’ movie

LOS ANGELES, Aug. 2 (UPI) — Michelle Dockery is open to a Downton Abbey movie.

The 34-year-old English actress, who played Lady Mary Crawley on the ITV series, voiced interest in the potential project in an interview with People magazine.

“We’ll see … I mean, I’m open to the idea of the film. I’m looking forward to seeing if that happens,” she said. “We’re all still very, very close, but we’re all off doing different things now all over the world.”

Downton Abbey came to a close in December after a six-season run. Series creator Julian Fellowes was enthusiastic but time-conscious about a movie when he spoke to IndieWire in May.

“I hope there will be a film,” Fellowes said. “There is an audience for a film. I’d structure a narrative with lots of things happening, but we would need a kind of unity to make a feature, which is a challenge for me.”

“It would be a bigger canvas: a riot could be a real riot, the ball a real ball,” he elaborated. “I would like that, I think it would be fun. But there’s a time and then everyone’s moved on.”

Downton Abbey co-starred Hugh Bonneville, Elizabeth McGovern and Maggie Smith. Dockery will next portray Letty Dobesh, a thief and con artist, on the TNT series Good Behavior.

“Letty is a very colorful, complex character,” the actress told People. “She’s much like Lady Mary was. I always have a place in my heart for that character, and I think that you kind of take your characters with you as you go on in your career.”
