LOS ANGELES, Sept. 8 (UPI) — New Line Cinema is set to acquire Alfonso Gomez-Rejon’s latest film Collateral Beauty starring Will Smith.
The news comes a month after Smith took over the lead role from Australian actor Hugh Jackman, who was forced to drop the part due to scheduling conflicts. Actress Rooney Mara has also dropped out of the project, Deadline reports.
The Allan-Loeb-written flick follows a New York executive after he experiences a life-changing tragedy and the irregular actions taken by his colleagues to help him recover.
Director Gomez-Rejon most recently helmed the Sundance favorite, Me and earl and The Dying Girl. Smith’s Overbrook Entertainment has come aboard to produce the project with Anonymous Content, PalmStar and Likely Story.
