LOS ANGELES (AP) — Canadian-born filmmaker Paul Almond, who created the landmark 1964 documentary “Seven Up!” has died.
David Stansfield, a longtime friend of Almond and a family spokesman, said he died April 9 at a Los Angeles hospital. The 83-year-old Almond had suffered from complications of heart disease.
A native of Montreal, Almond produced, directed and wrote or adapted dramas for Canadian, British and U.S. television. He also wrote and directed big-screen films, including three between 1968 and 1972 that starred his then-wife, Genevieve Bujold.
His documentary about the lives of British youngsters, “Seven Up!,” inspired a series of films that continues to follow the subjects’ lives.
A memorial for Almond was planned in Malibu, California, on April 26, which would have been his 84th birthday.
