Stolen piano returned to Toronto hospital

TORONTO, July 25 (UPI) —

Investigators said a baby grand piano stolen from a Toronto hospital was recovered after being sold to a business by one of the alleged thieves.

Toronto Police said the Boston Steinway, worth more than $26,000, was stolen July 14 from Toronto General Hospital during daylight hours and was returned to the facility Wednesday after being located at a Peel Region business by Peel Regional Police, the Toronto Sun reported Thursday.

"Peel Regional Police found the piano, turned it over to us and we returned it to the hospital," Constable Tony Vella said.

Police said the piano was sold to the Peel Region business by Artem Stanislav Timofeyev, 27, who is being sought on charges of theft over $5,000, trafficking in stolen goods over $5,000, exposing a counterfeit mark and fraud over $5,000.

The other two suspects, whose images were recorded by security cameras, have not been identified.

The piano sustained minor damage and will require a tuneup, hospital officials said.

"It’s not just a piano," University Health Network manager of security Todd Milne said. "It’s a tool that is used in the health and well-being of our patients."
