Donald Trump, Jr.: Cruz, Kasich Part of ‘Establishment Set-Up’ to Keep My Father from Getting Delegates He Needs

Donald Trump Jr. joined SiriusXM host Stephen K. Bannon on Friday’s edition of Breitbart News Daily to talk about the Republican Establishment’s efforts to block his father from winning the 1,237 delegates he needs to secure the nomination.

“These guys have been setting up this game for a long time,” he said.  “That’s why Kasich’s still in the race, right?  He’s in there, the spoiler, to make it more difficult to get to those numbers, because you’re not going to get as many north-of-50% type of wins, to make certain states winner-take-all.”

“Make no mistake: this is totally a set-up by the Establishment,” he declared.  “All of a sudden, their darling is Ted Cruz.”  He found this remarkable, since Cruz is on the “wrong side” of every issue the Republican National Committee laid out in its 2012 election post-mortem.

Don allowed that he was a relative newcomer to presidential politics, and said he was already tired of the “ridiculous” and “pathetic” games played by political operatives, such as the current attempts to manipulate expectations for the New York primary.  While Donald Trump is almost certain to win his home state, his son decried the effort by Senator Ted Cruz’s campaign to move the goalposts and portray anything less than a 51 percent victory, securing all of New York’s delegates, as failure.

“Let’s go back and look at Texas.  If you can’t win your home state by 50 percent – I mean, if that’s the logic, Ted Cruz didn’t do it in his own state,” Don pointed out.

Bannon noted that many of Trump’s supporters want him to return to his core issues, such as trade and border security, because they feel his campaign has stalled as he became distracted by peripheral issues and personality clashes.

“I think it’s time,” Donald Trump Jr. agreed.  “Everyone said when he brought up the wall initially – he had a plan all along, he knew how he was going to do it, he wasn’t going to get into details because everyone doesn’t want to talk about the details.  Again, to my point earlier, everyone wants the two-second sound bite, what would look good on the cover of a magazine, and you need to do it in three words or less.  But there is detail behind all of these things.”

“The Mexican government and the Obama Administration are probably losing their minds, because wait a minute – there’s a legal way that you could actually do this,” he said, referring to his father’s proposal to build a wall on the southern border and make Mexico pay for it, by using regulations to block Mexican immigrants from remitting money back to friends and family members in Mexico.

If that inducement was on the table, Don thought Mexico was likely to see the $8 billion to $10 billion cost of building a border fence as a smart investment to “guarantee the stream of thirty to fifty [billion dollars] a year, annually, stream of income into my country.”

Bannon also recalled the argument by Trump senior policy adviser Stephen Miller that building a border fence was in Mexico’s interest because leaving the U.S. border so obviously vulnerable lures a huge number of people into attempting border crossings – and many of them are injured or killed in the attempt.

“I think there’s a lot of truth to that,” said Donald Trump, Jr.  “When you think about what’s going on, on a human level over there, with people rushing to escape, they’re hiring these criminals to try to rush them across the border, they’re being held up at gunpoint.  There’s all sorts of physical attacks on a lot of these people.  It’s not a good situation.”

“I’ve spent enough time in South Texas, being a big outdoorsman, being a hunter and all that – I’ve seen it, where you just see the stacks of backpacks just lying on a ranch somewhere,” he testified.  “A friend’s place, you know, they found 17 dead bodies on there last year, of people trying to make it through.”

“If you stop some of the incentives of people trying to do it that way, where they’re going through a very arduous process to try to hike hundreds of miles in many cases to get somewhere, and you create a legal system by which people can do something – like my mom did, and like my father’s mother did, immigrants – you create that door, and I think there’s a way to do this, and it does as much for the benefit of the people going there as it does for us,”  Don advised.

“These are all things that have been thought out, and that’s why my father is saying,” he continued.  “His priority is jobs.  His priority is our military, and our veterans, taking care of them.  His priority is our children’s education.  I think sometimes the GOP gets mired in so many of these other issues that, in the grand scheme of things, aren’t as important in everyone’s day-to-day life.”

“My father is the only one in this race who has ever created an actual job, which is sort of hard to believe,” he noted.

Breitbart News Daily airs on SiriusXM Patriot 125 weekdays from 6:00AM to 9:00AM EST.
