NBA All-Star and Rio Olympian Draymond Green Arrested in East Lansing

A month after the NBA gave Draymond Green a timeout for not refraining from unwelcome contact with LeBron James, East Lansing police gave him a timeout in cuffs for a similar offense.

The arrest came at 2:41 a.m. Sunday morning for nonaggravated assault. This generally mean the perpetrator neither used a weapon nor inflicted great injury to the victim. The alleged incident occurred in an area that serves as home to several bars. Beyond this, details remain sketchy.

“The police department is not confirming any arrest with that name,” Lt. Scott Wrigglesworth told Mlive.com when the publication inquired about Green’s arrest. “What I can confirm is that we did arrest a current NBA basketball player this weekend and he was arrested for assault. That’s all we’re confirming right now.”

Green earned an All-Star Game nod this past season, in which he averaged 14 points and 9.5 rebounds per game en route to helping the Golden State Warriors to a 73-9 record-breaking record. The former Michigan State Spartan readies to play in Rio for the U.S. men’s basketball team.

“We are aware of news involving Draymond Green in Michigan over the weekend,” the Warriors said in a brief statement. “At this point, we are collecting information and will have no further comment until we have a better understanding of the situation.”
