Nahyan receives Swedish King's invite to World Scout Foundation's meet in Stockholm


WAM ABU DHABI, April 14th 2014 (WAM) — Sheikh Nahyan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, Minister of Culture, Youth and Community Development, today received an official invitation from Swedish King Carl XVI Gustav, Honorary President of the World Scout Foundation to the meeting of the supporters of the foundation’s fund, scheduled at the Royal Palace in Stockholm, Sweden, in September.




King Gustav’s invitation was delivered to Sheikh Nahyan as he receives the foundation’s delegation led by Siegfried Weiser, Officer and Chairman of the Board of Directors, John Geoghegan, Director of the foundation, and Dr. Atif Abdelmageed, Arab Regional Director of the World Scout Bureau of the World Organisation of the Scout Movement (WOSM) and Director of Arab Scout Organisation, a body of the League of the Arab States.




In his remarks at the meeting, Sheikh Nahyan noted that U.A.E. was among the first Arab countries to have a scout movement decades ago, and that it participates in regional international scouting activities thanks to the support extended by President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan.




In his statements to WAM, Mr. Weiser said the fund which was created in 1913 is interested in providing moral and material support to the world scout movement in order to empower the youth to achieve self-reliance, take an active part in volunteering and community service and be open to the world’s different cultures.




For his part, Mr. Geoghegan said that the world scout movement needs men who work on guiding the youth towards humanitarian and volunteer action.




Dr. Abdelmageed said the Arab scout movement has seen signifigant developments in the past years as it welcomed more boys and girls from all Arab countries.
