'Seamonster' could be new legal name of Massachusetts couple

SPRINGFIELD, Mass., July 28 (UPI) —

A Massachusetts couple have filed paperwork in an effort legally change both of their middle names to "Seamonster."

A notice about the potential name change was printed in the Holyoke Sun.

Massachusetts law required the couple, who would be known as Melanie Seamonster Convery and Neal James Seamonster Coughlin, to print a legal notice about the name change.

They were not too happy when someone noticed.

Apparently politely declining an interview about our name change is the same as giving an interview about our name change. Lesson learned.â € ” Melanie (@SeamonsterM) July 28, 2014

The Hampden Probate and Family Court in Springfield will issue a decision about the Seamonsters on Wednesday.

It seems likely that the Seamonsters will get their wish, as name changes are generally permitted unless they are deemed to be "inconsistent with public interests," MassLive reported.
