McAllen, Texas — More than 200 illegal aliens have been stuffed in car trunks, sealed into tractor trailers by human smugglers, or placed in danger through other tactics this fiscal year as they attempt to get around inspection checkpoints. The period of time is from October 1, 2015 through today.

Since the start of the 2016 fiscal year (October 1) U.S. Border Patrol agents have rescued illegal aliens from dangerous smuggling attempts, information provided to Breitbart Texas by the agency revealed.

Once human smugglers get aliens over the Rio Grande, they tend to place them in stash houses until they are able to prepare their smuggling attempt in order to bypass the federal checkpoint located between 30 and 80 miles north of the river.

Human smugglers are callous individuals, who prey upon the desperation of immigrants,” a prepared statement from USBP revealed. “They have no regard for human life and treat immigrants as commodities. These unscrupulous individuals use tactics that place the lives of immigrants and the general public in extreme danger.”

The most recent rescue took place on Saturday when agents found six illegal aliens locked inside a tractor trailer that had pulled up to the U.S.B.P. checkpoint in Falfurrias. In that case, the agents at the station had the driver of the tractor trailer move to a secondary inspection. During the inspection the agents found six illegal aliens locked inside the trailer, information provided to Breitbart Texas by U.S. Border Patrol revealed. In several other unrelated cases, agents found five other illegal aliens locked in car trunks over the weekend.

The Rio Grande Valley has become a a hotspot for human trafficking in recent years. As Breitbart Texas previously reported, in 2014, a shift in human smuggling routes turned this area into the main corridor used by the Gulf Cartel to funnel thousands of Central American illegal aliens into Texas creating a humanitarian crisis while at the same time being a very profitable venture for criminals. The involvement of cartels in human smuggling and trafficking has turned the quest for the American Dream into a nightmare for illegal immigrants, Breitbart Texas previously reported.
