An armed robber in South Dallas, Texas, was shot and killed by a store employee after he attempted to rob a store.

The suspect, 25-year-old Matthey Wayne Richardson entered a Metro PCS store on Martin Luther King Blvd. in South Dallas around 6:45 p.m. on Thursday night and ordered everyone in the store to get down on the floor, the Dallas Morning News’ Matt Peterson reported.

The video below shows the scene inside the store when the man later identified as Richardson can be seen entering the store and ordering the customers to the floor at gunpoint.

During the commotion, Richardson was apparently not aware of another store employee who was located in the back of the store. That employee heard the commotion and retrieved a gun.

The employee came up to the front part of the store and observed Richardson conducting the robbery. The employee opened fire. The suspect was struck at least one time.

Richardson was transported to a local hospital where he died on Friday afternoon from his gunshot wound. Detectives  interviewed witnesses and the store employee at the scene.

It was not reported who owned the gun or if the employee had a handgun license.

It does not appear any charges have been filed against the employee who stopped the would-be armed robber.

Texas law does allow a person to use deadly force in defense of others if they reasonably believe that person is in immediately in danger of death or serious bodily injury.

Some companies have policies that prohibit their employees taking this kind of defensive action against a robber. Metro PCS has not made a statement about the shooting or the fate of the employee.
