Law enforcement officials in Nassau County, New York, found 16-year-old Angel Soler’s body in the woods. His mother believes that MS-13 gang members killed him.

The Nassau County homicide team found the human remains on Thursday and officials have now identified the body as that of the missing teen. The Freeport High School student was missing since July 21.

Lilian Oliva-Santos, the mother of a friend of Soler’s, also thinks that MS-13 members murdered her son. Kerin Pineda has been missing since May of last year, reported News12 Long Island.

Oliva-Santos told the media outlet that she came to the states to flee from the violence in Honduras.

“I brought my sons and daughters to this country because I thought they would be safe. But, I never thought this was going to happen to my family,” she told the local reporter.

The grieving mother wants authorities to “destroy the gang, MS-13, because it is so dangerous for the young boys.”

Officials said they found the teen’s body after receiving a tip from the Department of Homeland Security, Newsday reported. The tip came from a “person of interest” in the case.

Law enforcement officials have not yet tied Soler’s death to the notoriously violent gang.

“This case is still under investigation and our detectives are looking into all avenues of the cause of death and who may be attributable to it,” Acting Nassau County Police Commissioner Patrick Ryder told Newsday.

This summer, Breitbart Texas reported that an official with the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) told the House Homeland Security Committee Subcommittee on Counterterrorism and Intelligence that “MS-13 is not the largest street gang in the United States; it is increasingly the most violent and well-organized.” He added, the gang has a “propensity for gruesome violence.”

MS-13 members frequently recruit children who are illegally in the country. The FBI official testified that MS-13 members are “typically much younger than those connected to other street gangs.” They take “cues from the gang instead of relying on a productive family structure. Also, those emigrating from El Salvador to the United States are known to be exposed and desensitized to extreme violence at an early age.”

The leadership of the infamous gang is based in the Central American countries of El Salvador and Honduras.

In June, law enforcement immigration officers and agents worked together with police in Nassau County and Suffolk County to bust 45 criminal gang members, including 39 from MS-13, Breitbart Texas reported.

Officials charged four MS-13 gang members (three 19-year-olds and a 22-year-old) in March with murdering three New York teenagers. They along with two others allegedly massacred 15-year-old Nisa Mickens and 16-year-old Kayla Cueva with a machete and a baseball bat in September 2016. The suspects were reported to have been looking for rivals to kill when they saw the girls walking down the street.

Last month, police in Long Island arrested a woman and charged her in a brutal MS-13 gang-related homicide. The woman allegedly lured the man to a car with a promise of sex and drugs before the gang killed him.

In August, Breitbart Texas reported that Suffolk County police and New York State Liquor Authority officers arrested seven at known MS-13 hangouts. They turned two others over to immigration officials.
