Former NYPD Commish: NYC Vulnerable to Paris-Style Attack

Former New York Police Commissioner Howard Safir warned Sunday on New York City’s AM 970 “Cats Roundtable” that the city is still susceptible to terror attacks like the ones earlier this month in Paris that left 130 dead and around 350 more injured.

Safir told show host John Catsimatidis (around the 5:13 mark) that there are “so many soft targets” in the city that “there is no reason to believe” the city is not “vulnerable” to a terroristic attack.

“There is no reason to believe that we’re not vulnerable,” Safir said. “There are so many soft targets in the city that we cannot be everywhere. What changed the dynamics in Paris is that instead of heading for some of the iconic targets like the Eiffel Tower or the Louvre, they picked a local restaurant, they picked a theater. Commissioner Bratton is doing a great job, but you can’t be everywhere. So we have to be vigilant.”
