Tuesday on ABC’s “The View” while discussing a several gun control measures spurred by the Orlando mass shooting failing to pass in the Senate, co-host Whoopi Goldberg thanked the National Rifle Association (NRA) because she now knows they “bought the Republican Party.”
Co-host Sunny Hostin said, “It’s common sense. Can’t we all agree as a nation that mentally ill people, criminals and terrorists shouldn’t have guns?”
Goldberg said, “Let me tell you what their response is. Here’s what they’re saying and I don’t understand. If you say well, you know, the terrorist watch list has people on it that are there mistakenly. Then fix it. Fix it. Do your job. Your job is to make sure that if there are people on that list that shouldn’t be there, you should take them off. It ain’t our responsibility to do it. We didn’t put ourselves on the list. So if there are ways to make it work, why won’t you do that? I just want to say thank you to the NRA because now I know — I thought I knew before but now I actually get it. You bought the Republican Party. You bought these senators. These 56 senators are more afraid of the NRA than they are of the American people.”
Joy Behar added, “November will tell the truth. Everybody look up the names of those senators that voted against these bills — Democrat or Republican. A couple of Democrats also from North Dakota, I believe one of them. You look them up and decide what to do in November. It’s up to you.”
