On Friday’s broadcast of HBO’s “Real Time,” Senator Bernie Sanders (I-VT) stated of the pharmaceutical industry “They own the political parties.”

Sanders stated, “[W]hat we have now, the pharmaceutical industry has 1400 lobbyists in Washington, DC. They have spent $1 billion — or $3 billion since 1988 just on lobbying, all right? These guys have enormous power. They own the political parties.”

Sanders later said that there is “nowhere near” the amount of big money in the Democratic Party.
