Dem Sen Leahy: We Need Independent Commission Into Russia Influence, People Upset Clinton Won PV But Lost EV

On Wednesday’s “MSNBC Live,” Senator Pat Leahy (D-VT) called for an independent commission to investigate Russian interference in the 2016 election in part because, “The American people see Hillary Clinton gained nearly 3 million more votes than Donald Trump. He’s getting the Electoral Vote. There’s enough disquietude around the country.”

Leahy said, “I think you have to have an independent commission, something independent of the Congress, something that can let the American people know exactly what happened. Russia apparently was trying to influence our elections. They have done this in other countries. We should have an independent look at it. The American people see Hillary Clinton gained nearly 3 million more votes than Donald Trump. He’s getting the Electoral Vote. There’s enough disquietude around the country. It may not make any difference in who is sworn in this time, but at least have a clear understanding what happened so it won’t happen. There were so many things that were done. Mr. Trump called, publicly, for the Russians to hack his opponent. They obviously have. How many other races in the United States were affected?”

Leahy added that we should “find out” whether Russian involvement swung the result of the election, and whether Russia actually did influence the election.
