Dr. Kelli Ward wants to thank #NeverTrump’s Bill Kristol. After Breitbart News reported that #NeverTrump leader Kristol had floated McCain’s name as a possible independent candidate to undermine presumptive nominee Donald Trump, Dr. Ward reports having a “record fundraising haul.”
In a statement provided to Breitbart News the Ward campaign notes:
U.S. Senate candidate Dr. Kelli Ward is sending Bill Kristol a thank you card after a record fundraising haul thanks to Kristol’s call for an independent presidential candidacy by McCain to undermine presumptive GOP nominee Donald Trump.
Kristol, a prominent pundit in GOP establishment power circles and editor of the neoconservative Weekly Standard, has repeatedly indicated his preference for Hillary Clinton over Trump and is stirring efforts to organize a revolt against him at the upcoming GOP convention.
Sean Hannity said on his radio show Friday, “Kristol tweeted that McCain was in DC raising money for a senate re-election bid. I don’t think he can even beat Dr. Kelli Ward….Polls have shown her tied with McCain in the Republican primary.
Dr. Ward told Breitbart News over the phone:
People all over the country have been going to KelliWard.com and donating to counter the establishment support John McCain is getting from DC establishment hacks like Bill Kristol. Our grassroots funded campaign has McCain so worried he’s using radical leftwing tactics by sending his staffers to try to intimidate my supporters and even my family. My real thanks goes to the thousands of patriots across Arizona and the country who have invested in our campaign but we thought it would be fun to tease Kristol by thanking him for his unintended support.
The thank you letter, which the Ward campaign is inviting people to sign, reads:
Dear Bill,
Your call for John McCain to run as an independent or to otherwise steal the Republican presidential nomination from Donald Trump has been fantastic for my fundraising.
As a matter of fact, our campaign has set terrific new records over the past few days.
That’s because you and John McCain have both worked hand in hand with Hillary and Obama to send weapons to jihadists and ISIS while refusing to secure our borders here at home.Your “Invade the World, Invite the World” ideology has dangerously distracted you both from the most important battlefield in the war on terror: Arizona’s border.That’s why John McCain is losing the general election in a reliably red state to a rubber stamp Obama Democrat.I’m gaining ground because I’m a Conservative Champion who can beat the Democrat in November and finally Mix the Mortar to Fix the Border.Once again, Bill, please keep up the good work. A few more tweets from you, and I’ll be picking out my office furniture in the US Senate.
