Democrat Utah Representative Jim Matheson broke ranks and will vote to hold Attorney General Eric Holder in contempt. Mr. Holder has refused to cooperate with the Oversight Committee on Operation Fast & Furious.
“It just compounds the tragedy when both sides play politics instead of releasing the facts. The Terry family, the public and Congress deserve answers,” Rep Matheson said. “Sadly, it seems that it will take holding the attorney general in contempt to communicate that evasiveness is unacceptable.”
Border Patrol Agent Brian Terry was shot on December 14, 2010 and died the following day. Guns found at the scene were connected to Fast & Furious.
Mr. Holder agreed to show up to a June 19 meeting with only 1,300 pages and a briefing of documents they would not be turning over. Chairman Darrell Issa went forward with the contempt vote. The Committee voted to hold Holder in contempt on June 20.
The GOP Leadership will bring the contempt vote to the House floor on Thursday.
