Heiress to Co. Hit by Obamacare Layoffs Invested in Failed Abound Solar

Pat Stryker, founder of The Bohemian Foundation and member of George Soros’ Democracy Alliance, served as a bundler for President Obama’s campaign and invested $300 million in the failed Abound Solar energy company that filed for bankruptcy in June of this year.

The billionaire heiress of medical device manufacturer Stryker Corp., is the sister of Jon Stryker, who, as Breitbart News reported Tuesday, was one of the top five donors to the Obama campaign. The siblings’ source of wealth is a corporation that is laying off over 1,170 employees due to the medical device excise tax used to fund ObamaCare.

According to Department of Energy emails discovered by investigative reporter Todd Shephard of CompleteColorado.com, Pat Stryker visited the White House on several occasions from October 2009 through December 2010, during the period that Democratic U.S. lawmakers were lobbying for the Abound Solar loan and actually garnering approval for the company’s loan application. One of the emails is from Jonathan Silver, executive director of the DOE loan programs, who wrote to credit advisor, Jim McCrea, “you better let him know that the WH wants to move Abound forward.” The DOE loan guarantee was supposedly going to lead to the creation of 1200 permanent jobs.

Though Obama personally announced Abound Solar’s $400 million loan on July 3, 2010, production at the company halted in February of this year, with layoffs of 70% of staff. In June, Abound Solar announced its official shut-down and filed for bankruptcy, an outcome that could cost taxpayers $60 million.

In an interview in October with KUSA’s Kyle Clark, President Obama was asked about Abound Solar’s loan application approval process. Obama responded, “And these decisions, by the way, that are made by the Department of Energy, they have nothing to do with politics.”

According to the Denver Post, Abound Solar is currently under criminal investigation by the Weld County District Attorney’s office in Colorado for securities fraud, consumer fraud, and financial misrepresentation.

Pat Stryker donated $50,000 for Obama’s inauguration in 2009 and bundled an additional $87,000 for the event. She also donated $35,800 to the Obama Victory Fund.

In addition, Stryker gave $145,000 in 2010 to America’s Families First Action Fund (AFFAF), which supports Democrat candidates, and $75,000 to “Women Vote,” an organization sponsored by Emily’s List.
