Hero Teacher Sacrificed Herself to Save First Graders from Gunman

Victoria Leigh Soto, one of the teachers killed in the Sandy Hook Elementary School massacre on Friday, heroically shielded her students from the gunman before she was shot and killed.

As a result of her bravery, none of her students died.

According to the New York Daily News, the 27-year-old first grade teacher “put herself between the gunman and her students.”

“The family received information she was found shielding her students in a closet,” Soto’s cousin, Jim Wiltsie, told the Daily News.

The Newstimes reported:

When she became aware there was a gunman in the school, she hid her first-graders in closets and cabinets, then told the shooter they were in the gym. He turned the gun on Soto, killing her, but none of her students were harmed.
