Report: Tamerlan Wore White Linens, Was Defensive About Beard

Tamerlan Tsarnaev, the suspected Boston Marathon bomber who was killed in a shootout on Thursday, reportedly grew a beard and started wearing white linen garments approximately two years ago, to the consternation of his friends and neighbors.

According to the Boston Globe, a neighbor said Tamerlan began wearing “long white linen garments” and that was a “striking change for the once hip-looking, urban young man.” The neighbor said that phase only lasted a month.

The friend also said Tamerlan got upset when he teased him about his beard. In response, Tamerlan reportedly defensively responded by asking, “Why are you making fun of my religion?”

Tamerlan also put videos of Islamic extremists on his YouTube playlists. One playlist was titled “terrorists,” and “a speaker holds an assault rifle and wears camouflage fatigues while flanked by armed men wearing masks.”
