Gallup: Record Number of Americans Believe Gov't Has Too Much Power

A record number of Americans believe the federal government has too much power. According to a recent Gallup survey, 60 percent of Americans believe the government has too much power, which is “one percentage point above the previous high recorded in September 2010.”

In addition, “Republicans (81%)… are now more likely than at any time since 2002 to say the government has too much power.” Even Democrats (38%) “are more likely to say this than at any time since President Barack Obama took office in 2009.”

The poll found that only 32 percent of Americans believe the government has “just the right amount of power.”

Gallup conducted its survey September 5-8 and the margin of error is +/- five percentage points.
