Durbin: GOP Leader 'Cannot Stand to Look At' Obama

Senate Majority Whip Dick Durbin, the number 2 Democrat in the Senate, made an outrageous claim on his Facebook page this weekend. The Illinois Democrat claimed that during a recent negotiation over the government shutdown, a House GOP leader told President Obama that “I cannot even stand to look at you.”

“What are the chances of an honest conversation with someone who has just said something so disrespectful?” Durbin added.

What are the chances that Sen. Durbin is simply making up this episode?

Throughout the debates over the government shutdown and debt ceiling, Democrats were not simply content to state their opposition to Republicans. They felt the need to vilify their political opponents. Democrats like Durbin regularly called Republicans “terrorists”, “anarchists” or accused them of holding the country “hostage” with their demands to delay ObamaCare.

Durbin’s weekend comments are reminiscent of the final debates over the ObamaCare law, when some Democrat lawmakers erroneously claimed that Tea Party activists had used the N-word slur against them. This site offered $100,000 for any proof of that claim. The proof never materialized.

Durbin, of course, didn’t identify the lawmaker who supposedly showed disrespect to President Obama. Durbin also failed to provide any context for the reported exchange or any indication of how President Obama responded.

Like most Democrats, Durbin knows the media will simply accept his statements at face-value. He can make outrageous claims and the media circus will note them and then move on. Durbin then will slip back into the shadows, never held to account.

If this exchange really happened, Durbin should name names.
