Former Rep. Bob Beauprez has won the Colorado Republican Primary for Governor beating Former Rep. Tom Tancredo, Secretary of State Scott Gessler, and former State Senate Minority Leader Mike Kopp.
Tancredo called Beauprez to concede the race which showed him trailing by about four points with more than 60 percent of the votes counted.
Gessler came in third while Kopp came in fourth.
Beauprez got into the race late, announcing his candidacy in March, but quickly received a wide swath of support. He was also quickly supported by many in the Denver business community.
He was also endorsed by both former Massachusetts governor Mitt Romney and Texas Governor Rick Perry.
Republican Governors Association Chairman Chris Christie called to congratulate Beauprez on his victory.
Colorado Republicans have been itching for a rematch against Democratic Governor John Hickelooper in the Fall.
Hickenlooper won in 2010 after the flawed Republican candidate Dan Maes was challenged by Tancredo, who ran as a candidate for the Constitution party.
But Beauprez also has a history of losing to Democrats.
In 2006, a bad year for Republicans, Beauprez lost by 17 points in the race for governor against Democratic candidate Bill Ritter.
Republicans, however, believe that Hickenlooper is vulnerable after enacting a liberal agenda in Colorado including a series of controversial gun control laws.
