Ted Cruz: Democrats Must Reject Party Loyalty and Kill Iran Deal

WASHINGTON, D.C.– Speaking at the Stop Iran Rally on Capitol Hill Wednesday, Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) laid out a list of negative consequences that would unfold as a result of Congress approving the Iran deal.

The first consequence:

The Obama administration will become quite literally the world’s leading financier of radical Islamic terrorism. If it goes through over $100 billion dollars will flow directly to Iran to the Ayatollah Khamenei, and billions of those dollars will go directly to Hamas, to Hezbollah, to the Houthis, to radical Islamic terrorists across the world, and those jihadists will use those billions to murder Americans; to murder Israelis; to murder Europeans.

“The second consequence is that it abandons four American hostages in an Iranian hell hole, including Pastor Saeed Abedini… Sentenced to 8 years in prison for the crime of preaching the gospel.” Cruz continued, adding that Americans Amir Hekmati (former U.S. Marine), Washington Post reporter Jason Rezaian, and Bob Levinson. “It’s a disgrace for this administration to abandon Americans in Iranian hell-holes.”

The third consequence of the deal passing, he explained, “is that it will facilitate and accelerate the nation of Iran acquiring nuclear weapons,” Cruz said. “There is no greater threat to the safety and security of America. There is no greater threat to the safety and security of Israel, than a nuclear Iran. I agree with [Israeli] Prime Minister Netanyahu (when he said) that a nuclear Iran poses an existential threat to the nation of Israel.”

The Senator from Texas paraphrased Holocaust survivor and renowned author Elie Wiesel, who said that the only country capable of committing another mass-genocide of the Jewish people was a nuclear-armed Iran. “Elie Wiesel observed: never again means never again,” Cruz said.

“It is my hope and prayer that each Senate Democrat” reconsider their vote, he added, saying that he agreed with former Democratic Senator Joe Lieberman when he said that the Iran deal vote would be the most important vote they cast during their careers.

There was a time when “Democrats were willing to defend” America on national security issues, Cruz stated. “Sadly, that is becoming rarer and rarer in today’s Congress. So to every Democratic Senator, they are facing a choice: do you value the safety and security of the United States of America? Do you value standing with our friends and allies? Do you value the lives of millions of Americans, or do you value more party loyalty to the Obama White House?”

“When we talk about terrorism, it’s worth remembering that if this deal goes through, we know with absolute certainty that people will die,” he added.

“Osama Bin Laden never had one-hundred billion dollars,” he said. “We are now talking about giving the Ayatollah Khamenei, a theocratic homicidal maniac who hates America every bit as much as Bin Laden did… Giving him one-hundred billion dollars to carry out this murderous plan.”

Cruz said that he “wanted to ask every Senate Democrat” how they would “look in the eyes” of the relatives of those murdered by Iranian militants overseas and explain to them how they could possibly vote for the Iran deal.
