France’s Macron: ‘U.S. Has Turned its Back on the World’ by Dumping Paris Accord

France’s new president, Emmanuel Macron, has criticized President Trump’s decision to withdraw from the Paris climate accord, stating that the United States “has turned its back on the world.”

On Twitter, Macron has taken to trolling the U.S. President, inviting all the world to “make our planet great again” and earning him the title of the “anti-Trump.”

For his part, President Trump stated Thursday that “I was elected to help the citizens of Pittsburgh, not Paris.”

“It is time to put Youngstown, Ohio; Detroit, Michigan; and Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, along with many other locations within our great country, before Paris, France,” he said.

The 39-year-old French socialist leader has furthermore invited all those people who are “disappointed by the decision of the U.S.” to come to France where they will find “a second homeland” where they can work together on “concrete solutions” for the planet.

Macron also made an unprecedented 3-minute broadcast in English, criticizing Trump’s decision as “a mistake, both for the U.S. and for our planet.”

“If we do nothing, our children will know a world of migrations, of wars, of shortage. A dangerous world,” he said.

In a separate tweet, Macron said in French that the U.S. has “turned its back on the world.”

“But France will not turn its back on Americans,” he said.

In his speech Thursday, President Trump said that the Paris agreement “is less about the climate and more about other countries gaining a financial advantage over the United States.”
