Parent Claims Students Paddled After Taking Part in Gun Control Walkout

Three students in Arkansas’ Greenbrier High School were allegedly given corporal punishment after taking part in the March 14 student walkout for gun control.

Arkansas Matters reports that the school superintendent made clear the three students “were not reprimanded for protesting, but for breaking school handbook rules in regards to leaving class.” He also stressed that “no student came to school asking to participate in the walkout and had made no preparations.”

Arkansas Matters also said the three students who walked out “were given the choice of suspension (usually 2 days) or corporal punishment for their participation in the walkout.”

A parent of one of the students took to Twitter claiming the students’ choice was corporal punishment. She expressed pride in the students’ determination:
