During Tuesday’s confirmation hearings, security jumped into action as a Parkland shooting victim’s father walked up behind Brett Kavanaugh.
Video of the incident shows that Kavanaugh had risen from seat and turned to his left to walk out of the chamber when Fred Guttenberg approached from behind. Guttenberg, the father of Jaime Gutternberg–who was slain in the Feb. 14, 2018, Parkland school shooting–reached out his hand toward Kavanaugh’s and said something, at which point Kavanaugh began to turn toward him and security intervened.

Afterward, Guttenberg tweeted, “Put out my hand to introduce myself as Jaime Guttenberg’s dad. He pulled his hand back, turned his back to me and walked away. I guess he did not want to deal with the reality of gun violence.”
Chelsea Clinton was quick to jump in, tweeting to Guttenberg, “I am so very, very sorry Fred this happened.”
The attempt to paint Kavanaugh as heartless comes on the same day Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-CA) claimed more Americans will die in mass shootings if Kavanaugh is confirmed to the Supreme Court. Ironically, Mr. Guttenberg admitted that Feinstein invited him to the Kavanaugh hearings:
To be clear, I was invited by Senator Feinstein to attend today. Anyone who knows me knows I will talk to anyone. I initiated an effort to introduce myself to Kavanaugh. It was my decison and I own it. Anyone trying to come up with some politial master plan is simply wrong.

Feinstein confirmed as well:
I invited @Fred_Guttenberg to sit in the audience at today’s hearing because the Supreme Court affects the lives of real people. He knows firsthand how Brett Kavanaugh’s extreme views on guns could lead to more massacres. Thank you Fred, for honoring your daughter.
