'American Horror Story,' 'Big Bang' up for Critics' Choice Awards

LOS ANGELES, May 22 (UPI)–The drama “American Horror Story: Asylum” and sitcom “The Big Bang Theory” each received six Critics’ Choice Television Awards in Los Angeles Wednesday.

“Parks and Recreation” and “Top of the Lake” were nominated for five apiece and “The Americans,” “Breaking Bad,” “Game of Thrones,” “The Good Wife,” “Louie,” “New Girl” and “Political Animals” scored four each.

Shortlisted for Best Comedy Series are “The Big Bang Theory,” “Louie,” “The Middle,” “New Girl,” “Parks and Recreation” and “Veep.”

The nominees for Best Drama Series are “The Americans,” “Breaking Bad,” “Downton Abbey,” “Game of Thrones,” “The Good Wife” and “Homeland.”

HBO racked up a total of 21 nominations, while FX earned 19.

“This year’s nominations reflect the expanding definition of television, with nominated programs and performances representing new platforms as well as broadcast and cable,” Broadcast Television Journalists Association President Joey Berlin said in a statement. “As evidenced by nominations for the 3rd annual Critics’ Choice Television Awards, television continues to be a rich and diverse source of high quality entertainment.”

Winners are to be announced June 10 at The Beverly Hilton Hotel in Beverly Hills, Calif.

“Parks and Recreation” actress and stand-up comedian Retta is to serve as host of the ceremony.
