'Runner Runner' Scribe Wants Online Gambling Legalized

Screenwriter Brian Koppelman of Rounders fame had a few things to say about online gambling to All In Magazine while working the red carpet on behalf of his latest project.

“We’re just huge fans of online gambling. It should be legalized, regulated and people should be able to play. Americans are great at making decisions about where they want to use their knowledge,” says Koppelman, the co-writer of the new gambling thriller Runner Runner.

The Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act was passed in 2006, and many online poker companies have been punished for accepting players from the United States and breaking guidelines set by the Act.

Runner Runner follows a college student (Justin Timberlake) getting dragged into the international underworld of online gambling.

There’s obviously no reason for online gambling to be illegal. The United States is supposed to be about choice and freedom. However, I’m sure the only way the government would ever agree with Koppelman would be if they got a large piece of the pie. I’m sure they’re already trying to figure out how.
