Daniel Tosh Wins $25K Bet on Pats for Friend with Cancer

Daniel Tosh cheers for the Miami Dolphins. But the Tosh.O star bet last night on the New England Patriots to help a friend in need.

“I’m going to do something actually useful and donate it all to Trump for America,” the Comedy Central host said after raising $25,000. “I’m joking. I’m giving it to a friend and fellow comedian, Andy Ritchie.”

Ritchie has brain cancer. But rather than just give the afflicted comedian $25,000, Tosh sought to parlay that money into a larger sum. “I’ve decided to do the responsible thing and gamble,” Tosh told his audience earlier this week. “Once I double it, he can do whatever he wants with it—go on a lion-hunting safari or get treatment.”

Here’s Ritchie in less serious times…

Despite namedropping the Miami Dolphins on every other show, Tosh dropped $25K on the Patriots. But he did so in a way that allowed him to still root for the Dolphins on Thursday night. Rather than wager on New England to cover the spread or merely win the game outright, Tosh made a prop bet for the Patriots to cover by 3.5 in the first half. He implored Bill Belichick and Tom Brady to “use your shady, dishonest cheating powers for good–in the first half only.”

The Patriots shut out the Dolphins 19-0 on two touchdowns, a field goal, and a safety in the first half. The Dolphins enjoyed a successful opening drive in the third quarter before quarterback Ryan Tannehill lost the accurate arm of recent weeks and threw two interceptions.
