‘Dump Dufus Donald’ Protests Planned by Hispanic Activists in Texas

Protesters block a street during an anti-Trump rally outside the Hyatt Regency Hotel where US Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump was speaking in Burlingame, California on April 29, 2016.

Hispanic activists are gearing-up to turn out massive numbers to protest Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump while he is in Texas this week. The organizer of the event in Dallas says the event there is being billed as “Dump the Trump,” and “Dump Dufus Donald.”

The presumptive GOP nominee has planned to be in Dallas, Houston, and San Antonio this week for fundraisers. As reported by The Dallas Morning News, Trump is scheduled to be in Dallas on June 16, and in Houston and San Antonio the next day.

The organizer of the Dallas event told Breitbart Texas that a similar march in Dallas last fall at the American Airlines building drew approximately 5,000 people. He says the second protest in the city will be just as large and will again be non-violent and peaceful. Other protests in the country have not gone as smooth, as reported by Breitbart News.

In April, hundreds of protesters flocked to a Trump campaign rally in Costa Mesa, California, bringing out a regiment of police in riot gear. Trump supporter Walter Krokosz told Breitbart News, “They were very aggressive. When we were leaving there were a lot of people in cars, Mexican flags hanging out the windows. A guy was doing donuts and the intersection was shut down. We saw people marching through the intersection.” Krokosz immigrated legally from Poland and is a veteran of the U.S. Army. A police patrol car was also vandalized by having its windshield shattered. A man jumped on top of the vehicle and then a group tried to flip the car over.

At the Republican state convention in California in late April, protesters knocked down barriers and stormed the front of the site. It was reported that their goal was to block the entrance so Trump could not get to the convention to speak.

Besides protests, activists in Texas are also planning to target a Mexican food chain because the owner is vice chairman of Trump Victory. Trump supporters have responded by asking Texans to eat at the Mi Cocina restaurants.

Hispanics are angry with Trump about comments he has made about Mexico, Mexicans, and building a wall along the U.S.-Mexico border. As reported by Breitbart News, Trump double-downed last summer after he made the statements telling MSNBC, “Absolutely. They’re sending us not their finest people. And it’s people from countries other than Mexico also. We have drug dealers coming across, we have rapists, we have killers, we have murderers. I mean it’s common sense. What do you think they’re going to send us—their best people, their finest people? The answer is no.”

An article by Breitbart News reported statistics and discussed the issues raised by Trump after Democrats and the media sought “to demonize Republicans with Hispanic voters.” It also induced that “without Trump’s typically blustering comments, the media would still be ignoring the problem of illegal immigrant criminality.”

A protest meeting was held in Dallas over the weekend to help organize a “Rally Against Racism & Hate.” Another one was held on Tuesday.

Breitbart Texas talked to the organizer of the protest in Dallas, attorney Domingo Garcia. Garcia says that Trump’s message is about “bigotry, hatred, and division” and charges that his rhetoric is “Un-American” and “Un-Christian.” He added, “We want a president who will work to bring people together.” He says he and his fellow activists want a president who will also “bring economic opportunity.”

Garcia was also critical of the owner of the Mi Cocina restaurants, Ray Washburne, who is serving as vice chairman of Trump Victory. He took offense at his hiring of “illegal immigrants,” saying he “exploits” them. He cited a lawsuit alleging that the company does not pay overtime, or allow proper breaks, and does not otherwise treat employees fairly. He says he is calling for a boycott of his restaurants. He said there would also be a protest at Washburne’s home. Washburne is a member of the MCrowd Restaurant Group which also owns Taco Diner restaurants.

Garcia said he will have a press conference on Wednesday with a broad cross-section of the community that will include Jews, Muslims, Blacks, women and others. He said he is calling for a boycott of the Mexican food restaurants so people will know “there are consequences to politics of hate.”

Washburne did not respond to an inquiry from Breitbart Texas but reportedly told the local NBC affiliate on Friday that he did not appreciate the protests by activists. He added that he employs thousands of Latinos.

Texas Public Radio reported that activists in San Antonio met at the Southwest Worker’s Union on Friday to organize protests for their area. Trump will be in the city famous for its scenic river walk for a fundraiser at the Oak Hills Country Club.

Houston writer and activist Tony Diaz, El Librotraficante told Breitbart Texas, “We aren’t protesters, we’re activists, and we organize massive voter registration rallies that sometimes coincide with a Trump appearance. That’s a chance for him to witness change is happening, and it’s happening in front of his supporters’ faces. We don’t have time to protest. We have work to do, and right now it’s to make sure Trump doesn’t win. Estos vatos votan (“These dudes vote”)!” he exclaimed.
