WASHINGTON, June 12 (UPI) — Wardrobe malfunctions happen every day. Quite often zippers unzip, breasts pop out, and straps snap, but for celebrities, such unfortunate events attract worldwide attention.
In honor of the most recent public case of indecent exposure committed by LeBron James — who accidentally flashed his groin on public television — we’ve put together a list of other high-profile slip-ups that had viewers seeing a lot more than they expected (or asked for).
Just so Bron Bron doesn’t feel alone, the following are among the most famous celebrity wardrobe malfunctions suffered in recent years.
1. The infamous Janet Jackson nip-slip
In 2004, Janet Jackson and Justin Timberlake performed “Rock Your Body” at the Super Bowl in Houston, Texas. All as going well until Timberlake accidentally ripped off Jackson’s top — revealing her right breast to the entire stadium. The incident was recorded on live television and broke Internet search records at the time.
2. Toni Braxton’s dress falls apart on stage
During a New Jersey concert in 2013, singer Toni Braxton’s skimpy blue dress fell apart before the audience’s eyes — but Braxton kept singing. She had no clue about the malfunction until someone came on stage to cover her with a suit jacket. Fortunately, Braxton was wearing a bodysuit beneath the dress, so no bare bottoms were exposed, but she admitted she was uncomfortable. “I should have charged more for tickets,” she said.
3. Nicki Minaj’s low-cut bra betrays her
Back in 2011 — Nicki Minaj’s out-of-this-world costume days — a mint-green low-cut bra she wore to perform live on Good Morning America slipped out of place, revealing her left nipple. The concert’s live audience saw the whole thing ,and so did the show’s East Coast audience. However, GMA edited out the incident for the West Coast airtime and publicly apologized.
4. Eva Longoria hikes up her skirt at Cannes
Before the premier of Jimmy P.: Psychotherapy of a Plains Indian at Cannes in 2013, Eva Longoria suffered a brief incident of overexposure. The weather in the French city was wet that day, so the actress attempted to protect her dress’s hem from puddles by holding it up as she entered the red carpet area. Unfortunately, the Versace ensemble had a very high slit, so hiking up the skirt revealed a little too much.
5. Mariah Carey’s dress pops on live TV
When Mariah Carey was about to sing on Good Morning America in 2013, her Donatella gown popped in the back, and all she could do was admit it. Luckily, Carey kept a cheerful outlook, joking with the designer saying, “I love you, Donatella, but it popped, darling.” Aides came to her rescue while Carey held the front of her dress to avoid any further exposure or “nip-slips.”
6. Robin Wright runs for her Golden Globe, exposes some mystery
At last year’s Golden Globe awards, actress Robin Wright may have been getting impatient. That’s probably why she decided to run to the stage when she was called to accept her Best Actress in a Television Series award for her work on House of Cards. During her acceptance speech, Wright turned to her left, revealing plenty of right side boob — but more importantly — the tape that kept the rest of it inside her shiny Reem Acra number. The slip went unnoticed by many, however, and was considered a “smooth” malfunction compared to others.
7. Idina Menzel jokes about her own nip-slip
When performing in front of 6,000 fans in the Radio Music Hall, Idina Menzel’s boobs were ready to pop right out of her visible black bra. The singer handled the incident with professional grace, asking the audience, “What? My boob’s coming out?” After someone from her crew helped put her breasts back in their proper place, Menzel realized the whole incident will make it onto television. “These divas need their stage…Well, [expletive]-it, they’re real,” she said to laughs.
8. Kim Kardashian has ‘Monroe’ moment
When Kim Kardashian-West was very pregnant with baby North, a stroll down a street in Santa Monica turned Marilyn Monroe-esque when a breeze nearly lifted her maternity dress’ skirt entirely up. But the Keeping Up with the Kardashians diva kept her cool and caught the skirt just before it exposed her entire bottom half.
9. Another nipple-flash, and it’s Lily Allen’s
At a concert in 2014, British musician Lily Allen was photographed meanwhile unknowingly suffering a slight wardrobe malfunction. Her jumpsuit featured a very deep plunge, revealing plenty of cleavage and, depending on where viewers stood, plenty of nip. A similar event happened to Allen with the same jumpsuit while opening for Miley Cyrus earlier that year.
10. Chrissy Teigen’s dress slit decides to take a climb
At this year’s CFDA Fashion Awards, model Chrissy Teigen’s Solance London gown had a mind of its own. The dress’ center slit hiked an extra few inches, but it didn’t stop her from having a good time with her shoe designer date. “Wardrobe malfunction of the highest caliber. Let’s just say the slit took it upon itself to rip 5 inches higher,” she wrote. “Thank you @stuartweitzman for letting me be your date and for always making my feet happy and legs sexy!!!”
