Mexican health officials estimate there are 26,5829 cases of the novel Coronavirus (COVID-19) in that country. They confirmed 3,181, but current models suggest the real number is 8.35 times higher.
Mexico’s Undersecretary of Health Hugo Lopez Gatell announced the new estimate on Wednesday night in his nightly news conference.

His staff revealed that health officials were able to confirm 3,181 cases and are looking at 9,188 more. Mexico had 174 fatalities resulting from complications with the virus.
Lopez Gatell explained that part of Mexico’s approach to the pandemic dealt with having control over when tests were performed, versus trying to test every individual.
“Based on that we were able to estimate with a certain degree of certainty that for every case that we confirmed through testing, there were eight cases out there that for various reasons were not counted,” Lopez Gatell said. “It is about not only counting what you are seeing, but also what you are not seeing.”
