Mixed martial arts (MMA) fighter Sergio Hernandez chased suspect, took him to the ground, and held him for police in City Heights, San Diego.

Hernandez was wearing flip flops throughout the foot pursuit.

The San Diego Union-Tribune reports that Hernandez spotted the suspect in his backyard and approached to ask what he was doing. The suspect claimed he was fleeing a dog, but Hernandez noticed a window screen on the ground and suspected the man had been trying to get into the house.

As Hernandez was piecing things together the suspect took off, jumping a fence and running. Hernandez caught him, talked with him about the alleged attempted robbery, then threw him to the ground. He then put the suspect “in a triangle choke” and held him for police.

A neighbor videoed the scene once Hernandez had the suspect on the ground. Hernandez posted the video to Instagram:

After the incident was over Hernandez said, “It took at least five minutes for the cops to show up. It may not seem like a long time, but when you’re holding a giant guy who’s trying not go to jail, it feels like forever.”
