O’Reilly: Paul Ryan Should Be Speaker of the House

Thursday on Fox News Channel’s “The Five,” host Bill O’Reilly reacted to the decision by House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) to drop his bid to fill the House Speaker’s position soon to be vacated by John Boehner (R-OH).

According to O’Reilly, the next best guy in the wake of this news to fill that spot would be Rep. Paul Ryan (R-WI), the 2012 Republican vice presidential nominee.

“All I know is that Paul Ryan should be Speaker of the House,” O’Reilly said. “He doesn’t want it? So what. You make him do it … Paul Ryan should be Speaker of the House and represent the Republican Party in that context. Everybody else who is going to be considered: A) The public doesn’t know them. B) There is an ideological bent here, which doesn’t do anybody any good because you want to pass laws, right? You don’t want to make policy because that is what happens at the other levels.”

“So anyway, I don’t know why McCarthy pulled out,” he continued. “He seems like a nice enough fellow to me, but I think Paul Ryan has got to wise up and get in there.”

O’Reilly went on to say of Ryan that he “is smart” and he would be the best to unite the GOP.
