On Thursday’s broadcast of CNN’s “Situation Room,” Representative Joaquin Castro (D-TX) stated that if FBI Director James Comey was fired in an effort to “affect the investigation into any of his associates’ coordination with the Russians who interfered with the 2016 election, then yes, that is an impeachable offense.”

Castro reacted to Sarah Huckabee Sanders’ comments that Comey’s firing is a step to help the Russia investigation come to a conclusion by saying, “Well, the idea that you would fire the FBI director to hasten the conclusion of the Russian investigation is just absurd, and I do think that it raises questions of obstruction.”

Anchor Wolf Blitzer then asked Castro if he was prepared to speculate about impeachment. Castro answered that more information was needed before that could be brought up and argued that there needs to be an investigation of Comey’s firing.

He added, “I will say this, if it’s found that the president intentionally fired Director Comey to affect the investigation into any of his associates’ coordination with the Russians who interfered with the 2016 election, then yes, that is an impeachable offense.”
