FL GOP Gov Scott: ‘If Somebody Is Mentally Ill, They Should Not Have Access to a Gun’

During a presser on Thursday, Florida Governor Rick Scott (R) argued that “if somebody is mentally ill, they should not have access to a gun” and said his policy conversations would focus on school safety and mental health funding.

Scott said, “The two things I want to focus on when I have this conversation next week with state leaders is that we’re going to focus on school safety, and that’s going to focus on dollars. It’s going to focus…on mental health, dollars. It’s going to focus on what are the things we can do with regard to school safety. But on top of that, we’ve got to think about this, if somebody is mentally ill, they should not have access to a gun. So, I want to focus on both of those things, I’ve already have spoken to the speaker of the House and the Senate president, and they’re receptive to having this conversation about school safety.”
