Sunday on NBC’s “Meet the Press,” Sen. Susan Collins (R-ME) said Congress should debate a bill to protect special counsel Robert Mueller to send a “message” to President Donald Trump.
Partial transcript as follows:
TODD: I’m going to ask about that very question, McConnell said I decide what goes on the floor, it’s not happening. Where are on this floor?
COLLINS: I believe it’s important to have a debate on the bill in order to send a clear message to the president that Congress does not support his taking any action with regard to Mr. Mueller’s investigation. Now, I don’t think there’s any chance in the world that the president is going to sign the bill. And there are some legitimate constitutional issues that have been raised. But I think that message is an important one.
