Pompeo on Running for Senate in Kansas: ‘It’s Ruled Out’

Secretary of State Mike Pompeo shot down rumors that he will be running for United States Senate in Kansas in 2020 for the seat currently held by retiring Sen. Pat Roberts (R-KS).

“It’s ruled out,” he proclaimed Thursday on NBC News’ “Today.”

Pompeo said he loves Kansas, but plans to serve as secretary of the State Department as long as President Donald Trump wants him there.

“I love Kansas,” Pompeo stated. “I’m going to be the secretary of State as long as President Trump gives me the opportunity to serve as a senior diplomat.”

He added, “I love doing what I’m doing.”
