GOP Rep. Burchett: ‘Very Possible’ Republicans Have House Speaker by Tomorrow Night

Representative Tim Burchett (R-TN) said Monday on CNN “NewsNight” it was “very possible” that House Republicans will have a final vote for a speaker by tomorrow night.

Burchett said, “We had a very good meeting. We had nine men stand up there and offer themselves, I guess on the sacrificial altar of being speaker, and eight emerged.”

He added, “We have a very deep bench. I think we are in very good shape. I think we will have something soon. We will emerge from that this week and hopefully we’ll get back to business.”

Anchor Abby Phillip asked, “So Matt Gaetz has said there might be a new speaker tomorrow night. Do you think that’s the case?”

Burchett said, “I think that’s very possible. I don’t speak for Matt. He doesn’t speak for me, but he knows as well as I do that of the eight gentlemen that are in there, each of them could handle it. I think each of them could do the job very well. And they are concerned about our fiscal situation, they understand that we’re three or four trillion dollars in debt, and we’re taking in five trillion and spending seven trillion. We spent a trillion dollars a year in interest if you can imagine that, just interest on loans. A lot of that goes to our enemies, the Communist Chinese.”
