“As an artist who believes in equality for all people, I will not be participating in the Boy Scouts of America Jamboree this summer,” Jepsen said over Twitter on Tuesday morning.
Her announcement comes on the heels of the band Train’s withdrawal from the event for the same reason.
The Boy Scout’s position on barring gay members isn’t new, but the musical cancellations were likely the result of pressure from an online petition at Change.org as well as recent efforts by GLAAD (Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation) to draw attention to the matter.
More than 65,000 people have signed a petition asking Jepsen to denounce the group’s position on gay members.
The National Scout Jamboree is a 10-day event held every four years which gathers more than 45,000 scouts, leaders and staffers to celebrates the organization’s work.
