A dog in Iowa is making her rounds on the Internet after inexplicably escaping from her home last week and traveling nearly a mile to visit her owner in the hospital.

Nancy Franck has been hospitalized at Mercy Medical Center in Cedar Rapids for two weeks, recovering from surgery during her battle with uterine cancer. Early on Feb. 7, Nancy’s husband Dale noticed the family’s white Miniature Schnauzer, Sissy, was missing.

“I kept checking everywhere, calling out, ‘Sissy! Sissy!'” Frank told ABC News. “I was pulling my hair out.”

Dale was pleased to receive a phone call at 5:30 that morning from a hospital security officer named Samantha Conrad. Conrad found Dale’s telephone number on Sissy’s dog tag and contacted him about her whereabouts.

Apparently Sissy was found wandering the halls of the hospital.

A surveillance camera captured Sissy entering the facility through an automatic door and then scouring the hospital halls in search of Nancy’s room.

“She was on a mission that night to see her mom,” Frank said.

Franck’s daughter, Sarah Wood, went to the hospital to retrieve the pooch but made sure to bring Sissy by her mother’s room first.

“[Sarah] told her mom, ‘I got a surprise for you!'” Dale said. “My wife was like, ‘How’d you get her in here? Did you sneak her under your coat?'”

Nancy was allowed to spend a few moments with her furry friend before Sarah returned the rogue hound home to their second Mini Schnauzer, Barney.

“Sissy’s 11 now, and we bought her when she was just about 8 weeks old. She came up to me, scratched my leg and fell asleep on my shoulder,” Dale said. “I’d say we didn’t pick her, she picked us.”

The family is uncertain how the dog knew where to find Nancy, as Sissy had never visited the hospital before. Sarah says the “little spoiled brat” ran away from home because she wanted to see her mom.

As for Nancy, doctors believe the majority of her cancer is gone, but Dale tells ABC she is still undergoing chemotherapy.
